Meal Allowance vs Trainee Allowance: What You Need to Know

Meal allowance is capped at RM100 per day per trainee and is typically claimed when training takes place near the employee’s usual workplace. Trainee (travel) allowance is distance-based: a maximum of RM250 per day for journeys under 100 km, or RM500 per day for 100 km and above. Only one of these two allowances may be claimed for the same training day.

No supporting documents are required for either allowance, but the claim must clearly indicate which type is being requested. HRD Corp will reject or adjust claims that attempt to claim both simultaneously. The same single-allowance rule applies to internal trainers travelling from headquarters or branches.
